Welcome University of Houston Fertitta Family College of Medicine Medical Students

Welcome to DHR Health! We are truly glad to have you here as you take this important step in your medical journey.

This rotation is more than a clinical requirement—it is an opportunity to learn, grow, and discover the kind of physician you aspire to become. Everything we do here is guided by our core values of DHR CARES: Commitment, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Service. We invite you to embrace these same values as you walk our halls.

You will see commitment reflected in the dedication our teams bring to every patient, every day. You will be held to—and supported by—a culture of accountability, where we own our actions and grow from them. Every patient, colleague, and learner you encounter deserves respect, and you will find that same respect extended to you. We pursue excellence not as a destination, but as a daily practice, and we encourage you to hold yourself to that same standard. Above all, service is at the heart of why we are here, and every interaction is an opportunity to live that value.

Please don’t hesitate to ask questions—curiosity is one of the most valuable qualities a physician can have, and it is celebrated here. Lean in, speak up, and embrace every experience with an open mind and a compassionate heart.

We are proud to be part of your training and look forward to learning from you as well. Welcome to the DHR Health family.

Warmly,
Samira Mohamed, MD
Assistant Chief Academic Officer, GME/UME (ACAO)

Alfonso Muñoz

Alfonzo Muñoz

I am a second-year medical student at the Tillman J. Fertitta College of Medicine. I earned my undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences in El Paso, Texas. My interest in medicine developed toward the end of my undergraduate studies after shadowing my brother, who practices medicine in Mexico. Observing his dedication to patient care and the impact he had on his community solidified my desire to pursue this path. I am particularly interested in surgery, with a specific focus on urology. I am drawn to the field’s combination of technical precision, longitudinal patient relationships, and meaningful impact on quality of life. Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, exploring new restaurants, and hiking. I also have a strong appreciation for cooking and gardening, both of which allow me to unwind and stay creative.

Mallory Jean

Mallory Jean

My name is Mallory Jean and I am a second year medical student at the University of Houston Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. I am the youngest of four (and aunt of five) and am originally from Beaumont, TX, but grew up mostly in Fort Worth, TX. I was very involved in both the arts and sciences throughout grade school, and continued those interests during my time in Baltimore, MD at Johns Hopkins University where I earned my Bachelors of Science in Neuroscience with a minor in music. Upon graduating, I moved to Houston, TX, and began medical school, where in less than two years I have learned more and built a stronger community than I ever imagined possible (and for which I am deeply grateful). After medical school I aim to pursue a neurosurgery residency and subsequent spine fellowship.

Amanda Hernandez

Amanda Hernandez

I am originally from Dallas, Texas. I am a first generation Mexican-American and both of my parents are from San Luis Potosi. I am going to be applying to Internal Medicine in the fall, but I am undecided if I am interested in any fellowships. My ultimate goal in medicine is to serve those who are underserved especially those in the Latino community. Looking forward to everything I'm going to learn in this rotation!
