DHR Health and STC Starr County Campus Collaborate to Bring Life-Changing Health Event, Empowering Starr County Residents

Rio Grande City, Texas-DHR Health and South Texas College Starr County Campus are joining forces to host a Cancer Detection and Early Prevention Lecture and Screening event for all Starr County residents. This event, free and open to the public, will take place on June 14, 2023, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., at the STC Starr County Campus, Vocational Nursing Program, Building H - Event Center, located at 142 FM 3167 in Rio Grande City.

“This event reflects the commitment we have to the health and well-being of the various communities we serve,” said Anabel Arellano-Rodriguez, Director of Business Development, DHR Health Advanced Care Center. “At DHR Health, we aim to improve access to high-quality healthcare and equip residents with the resources needed to prioritize their health, in their community.”

DHR Health currently has several physician providers in Starr County who offer medical care in several specialty areas, including cardiology, diabetes management, gastroenterology, general surgery, and urology. With this event, DHR Health proudly introduces Dr. Shravan K. Narmala, who provides Oncology and Hematology services to residents in Starr County.

Dr. Narmala is a board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology, and hematology. He obtained his medical degree from Osmania Medical College of India and further pursued a Master of Public Health from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He completed his residency in internal medicine/pediatrics and a fellowship in hematology oncology at Louisiana State University Health Science Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Event attendees will have the opportunity to meet Dr. Narmala in person, who will deliver an engaging presentation on cancer awareness, empowering participants with vital knowledge for early detection and prevention.

In addition to the educational component, there will be free health screenings available during the event which will include a Fibro Scan, which is a specialized ultrasound technology that measures changes in a person's liver. A CBC (complete blood count) test will also be offered and assesses overall health and detects a wide range of conditions, including anemia, infection, and leukemia.
