DHR Health made a big splash at the 19th Annual “Fishing for Hope” Tournament, held on August 23 at Jim’s Pier in South Padre Island, raising an impressive grand total of $501,316. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Hope Family Health Center located in McAllen, which provides free healthcare services for economically disadvantaged, medically uninsured and underserved children and adults throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Additionally, DHR Health’s employees raised over $190,000 themselves with top fundraising department honors going to Radiology, Environmental Services, Engineering, Safety, and Labor Management, Supply Chain, Laboratory Services, and Hospice.
“We are truly grateful by the overwhelming support from our gracious sponsors and employees,” said Marissa Castañeda, senior executive vice president for DHR Health. “Every dollar raised will further advance the goal of helping the Hope Family Health Center in providing essential medial services to uninsured families.”
Since its inception, the “Fishing for Hope” Tournament has been the signature fundraising event for DHR Health, which has been getting bigger every year. Currently, it is one of the largest fishing tournaments to benefit a non-profit on the Texas coast. In addition to the fishing portion of the event, a social gathering was held on the night before the tournament at the South Padre Island Convention Center, where country band, Rustic Rose, performed. The evening after the tournament, an auction was held and fishing division winners were announced and awarded.
“We are proud to say that over time, this tournament has raised close to $5 million for the Hope Family Health Center,” said Minerva Echols, director of DHR Health Conference Center at Renaissance and Fishing for Hope Chairperson. “We are looking forward to hosting our 20th annual event next year as we remain dedicated to our mission of positively impacting the lives of those who need help the most.”
The Fishing Tournament featured several fun competition categories for all fishing participates. In the physician and guest divisions, top honors went to the following anglers:
