DHR Health To Host the Purple Project 5K: A Uniting Run for All Cancers in Celebration of “National Cancer Survivors Month”

DHR Health is thrilled to announce the Purple Project 5K: A Uniting Run for All Cancers event, scheduled to take place at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 25, at the scenic Edinburg Municipal Park located at 714 S. Raul Longoria Road.

This highly anticipated event aims to raise cancer awareness and support while aligning with the significance of June as “National Cancer Survivors Month.” DHR Health invites cancer survivors, caretakers, family members, and friends to participate in this empowering event that unites individuals from all walks of life, honoring survivors, remembering those who have battled cancer, and demonstrate unwavering support for those currently fighting the disease. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Renaissance Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization of DHR Health, dedicated to assisting underserved cancer patients from throughout the Rio Grande Valley with various financial needs and assistance.

“This event will provide a platform for cancer survivors, patients, families, and the community to come together and share their stories, experiences, and hope. Plus, it’s all for a wonderful cause as the monies we raise go back to help cancer patients from throughout the Rio Grande Valley,” said Evelyn Saenz, Executive Director of the Renaissance Cancer Foundation.

Registration is now open, and participants who register by June 13 will receive a complimentary Purple Project 5K t-shirt. To register, simply visit the event's official website at www.dhrhealth.com/purpleproject5K.

.

The registration fee is $15 for cancer survivors and $25 for runners/walkers. Additionally, the first 300 registered participants to cross the 5K finish line will receive a commemorative medal.

“The atmosphere will be filled with encouragement, compassion, and the shared goal of raising cancer awareness and support,” said Clara Chapa, DHR Health Advance Care Center Community Outreach Coordinator.

According to the National Cancer Institute, an individual is considered a cancer survivor from the time of diagnosis through the balance of his or her life. Each survivorship experience is unique, as survivors may face various challenges during and after treatments.

“I am grateful for a second chance at life and for the opportunity to celebrate hope and improved health at the Purple Project 5K,” said Lydia Molina, a cancer survivor, who plans to bring her family to the event.
