Biography

DHR Health, the largest physician-owned hospital in the U.S. and a proud healthcare provider in the Rio Grande Valley since 1997, is thrilled to welcome Dr. Francis N. Dimtri, DO, to our renowned cardiology team. Dr. Dimtri is double board-certified in internal medicine and cardiology and brings advanced expertise in cardiac CT angiography and is certified to perform and interpret nuclear cardiology studies.

Dr. Francis Dimtri earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University and a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) at Nova Southeastern University in 2016, followed by an internal medicine residency at Corpus Christi Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident and earned his board certification in 2019. Dr. Dimtri went on to specialize in cardiovascular disease, completing a fellowship at Corpus Christi Medical Center, where he was named Chief Fellow and earned his board certification in 2023. He has actively contributed to committees like the STEMI and Chest Pain Committees to improve emergency cardiovascular care protocols.

From the beginning of his medical career, Dr. Dimtri has been passionate about patient-centered care and keeping up with the ever-changing field of medicine. His interest in cardiology stems from a fascination with the heart's complexity and a commitment to understanding the causes behind conditions like heart failure. In this complex field, Dr. Dimtri is driven to identify the factors contributing to cardiovascular disease and to help patients regain comfort and return to their daily lives. 

“To me, the most rewarding part of cardiology is meeting a patient for the first time and guiding them back to health. Watching someone regain their strength and resume their life is why I do this work,” said Dr. Dimtri. 

Dr. Dimtri is currently accepting new patients at the DHR Health Heart Institute located at 5525 Doctor’s Drive in Edinburg. In the near future, Dr. Dimtri will begin seeing patients at the DHR Health Heart Institute in Mission located at 2121 E. Griffin Parkway, Suite 16. To schedule an appointment, call (956) 362- 8740.
