Biography
DHR Health is pleased to welcome RGV native Sandy Magallan, Au.D., CCC-A, as an Audiologist at the DHR Health Ear, Nose, and Throat Institute. She earned her Doctor of Audiology degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2018. In her role, Sandy will work closely with ENT physicians (otolaryngologists) to provide comprehensive care for patients with hearing and balance disorders. Her responsibilities include conducting thorough hearing evaluations, assessing cochlear implant candidacy, programming cochlear implants, performing limited balance assessments, and soon, offering hearing aid services. Most of her services are available to newborns and patients of all ages.
Sandy is deeply committed to giving back to both her profession and her community. She played a key role in establishing the Audiology track for the Communication Sciences and Disorders bachelor’s program at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and contributed to the development of the upcoming Doctor of Audiology program. As part of her dedication to providing holistic care, she collaborates with Baylor University on a genetic testing program through Project GIVE. She also maintains strong community ties with the McAllen and Brownsville Regional Day School Programs for the Deaf, working with Early Childhood Interventionists via Region One and Easter Seals. Additionally, she co-founded the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Awareness Walk, held annually every September in the RGV with Texas Hands and Voices. Sandy is also an active member of the cochlear implant task force focused on developing assessment guidelines for Spanish-speaking adults, as part of the American Cochlear Implant Alliance.
