Intensive Care Unit
The DHR Health Intensive Care Unit (ICU) sets the standard for critical care, combining cutting-edge treatments, compassionate care, expert teams, and nationally recognized excellence. We are proud to be among the few U.S. hospitals awarded The Joint Commission’s Certificate of Distinction in the Management of Respiratory Failure, making us the only facility in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) to earn this title.
Our ICU is home to the RGV’s only ECMO Program, trained by the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO), providing advanced artificial life support for respiratory and cardiac failure. With 24/7 in-house care from board-certified physicians certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), we deliver unparalleled expertise and dedication.
We also host the regions only ICU specialized in Obstetrics & Gynecology, with providers trained by the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) through the Fundamentals in Critical Care Support for Obstetrics. In collaboration with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), we advance critical care research through initiatives like the PRECIPICE Study.
Guided by inter-professional team collaboration and recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO), we prioritize patient-centered care. Every patient receives individualized treatment, with their families actively involved in the healing process. For those seeking hospice and palliative care options, our services also include pain management, emotional and bereavement counseling, 24/7 medical support.
